WHAT IF
A SCHOOL HAD A HEARTH?
Not a metaphorical hearth, but a real, flickering, popping, heat-producing, wood-burning fireplace . . .
What sort of education do you picture? What kind of people would you hope to find?

The Hearth is a cohort designed to help middle school students of varying math and literature abilities to grow into a class unified in purpose, effort, and enthusiasm for goodness and truth. It's a fantastic on-ramp for homeschooling students and families interested in joining the campus community of The Oaks Academy in high school.

Our Algebra I class uses Mary Dolciani's 1965 classic Modern Algebra, and Geometry will work through the companion volume Modern Geometry (1965) by Jurgensen.

Literature & Composition exposes students to all the genres of great literature they will study in high school. Selections for 2025-26 include Little Women, The Merchant of Venice, The Iliad, A Christmas Carol, and Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin.

While all students must take Math and Literature from 8-10am, they have the options of adding Earth Science and Latin I, making a half-day schedule Mon-Thurs from 8-12pm. Classes are $800 each.
